Do I need a lot of racing experience to compete in Italy?
No, you can be a first year Cat. 5 or a Cat. 2 with a lifetime of experience. What you need is a passion for racing, just like the Italians! For some of our riders, winning is the goal; for others, learning and improving is what they strive for. For everyone, having fun is always the result.

What about a racing license?
To race in Italian federation races you must have an U.D.A.C.E. federation license. A USA Cycling or UCI license is not accepted. As a U.D.A.C.E. registered team, Velo Veneto will issue a license to you. The license costs $65. Please bring a passport- sized photo for your license.

What jersey will I wear?
You must race in a Velo Veneto team jersey. The cost for a jersey is $75. Team shorts are available for $60. Other Velo Veneto clothing items may also be available. While we look sharp training together in team gear, it's not mandatory on team training rides.

How much does it cost to enter races?
Most races UDACE races cost ten Euros, roughly $15. Gran Fondos are usually about 45 Euros ($70).

Do you rent bikes?
Yes, at a cost of $35 per day. However, we strongly suggest you bring your own racing bike. For touring guests who only stay a short time, a rental bike might be appropriate.

What gearing is best for the Veneto region?
For climbs like the Monte Grappa or Passo Rolle in the Dolomites, we suggest at least a 39x25. For racing a 53x12 is often needed. If you ride a compact chain ring, a 50/34 x 12/25 is perfect. Contact us for more specific help on this question.

Will there be a mechanic available?
You are responsible for the working condition of your bike. We suggest getting a tune-up before you arrive. Our Villa garage is used for minor repairs/adjustments and bike cleaning. You should bring your own basic tools. For major repairs we have a couple of bike shops with expert mechanics available.

What if I want to travel around Italy after my stay at Velo Veneto?
If you want to do some further travel in Italy after your stay with us, we can store your bike case, no charge.

What if I want to rent my own car?
Experience has taught us that pre-booking your car for pickup at the Venice airport is the least expensive way to go. You can even get the car later in your trip by riding with the team van on airport pickup/drop-off days to get your car.

What airport should I fly to?
The closest international airport is the Aeroporto Marco Polo near Venice.

How do I get to Velo Veneto from Venice?
First you must take a bus from the airport to the Venezia-Mestre train station. From there you take a train to Castelfranco. From there you can catch a bus or taxi to the camp in Castelcucco.

Can I get picked up at the airport?
Yes, we make airport runs on Mondays. We charge $300 roundtrip for airport pickup or drop-off. For groups traveling together we will discount the per person fare based on the number of passengers. You must arrange for this service in advance. Contact us for more details. (fyi, cab fare from Venice airport to Castelcucco is about $400 roundtrip)

Velo Veneto cancellation/refund policy?
The reservation deposit is $600. Of that $400 is non-refundable. We require your camp fee be paid in full 60 days prior to your arrival. If you need to cancel 15-30 days before arrival $800 of your camp fee is non-refundable. If you need to cancel within 14 days of arrival, you’ll be refunded 50% of your total camp fee for stays of seven days or more.

What about Insurance?
Medical/Accident insurance is very important when traveling internationally. Check with your policy for specifics regarding “dangerous sports” coverage. You are responsible for providing your own insurance coverage.

What about non-cyclists?
We encourage non-cyclists to experience the Veneto region with you. Please keep in mind we don't provide transportation except for camp activities. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.

How much pocket money will I need?
Your daily camp fee covers your lodging, three meals per day and transportation to races and other camp activities. You'll need money for a license, race entry fees and team jersey (unless you’ve purchased an all inclusive package). Then of course you'll want coffee, gelato, sight-seeing and shopping! There is an ATM at the bank in Castelcucco and most merchants accept VISA cards.
