One week to see what inspired High School Mountain Biking

It is a lesser known fact that no one has yet successfully contested the Velo Veneto camp record for climbing Monte Cesen, set by Matt Fritzinger in the summer of 2000. Perhaps it was on the top of that climb where the seed of an idea that became the NorCal High School Mountain Bike League, and now NICA, was planted. In that spirit, we’ve created a special trip specifically for those connected to high school mountain biking in the hopes that you are similarly inspired to continue this work.

Italy, and in particular, the Veneto region, has some of the best riding in the world. With our smooth roads winding through flat farmland, rolling vineyard hills, and the dramatic Dolomites, you’ll never want for new rides. Oh, and along the way, we’ll sample some of the best Italian cuisine and wines.

2012 NICA Italy Trip Itinerary*:

7 Days/6 Nights

May 27 – Sunday: Arrival, shakedown ride, and welcome dinner!

May 28 – June 1 – Monday to Friday: Every day, we’ll head out on a new ride. Some will roll up and down through the vineyards, others will head out onto the Padovana plain that was the inland empire for the Venetians, and other days, we’ll head up into the Dolomites to ride some real mountains. Of course, one of the days, we’ll climb our own backyard mountain, the Monte Grappa!

Each day, you’ll have a continental breakfast at the hotel before our ride. After we return, you’ll have a 3-course lunch to recover and an afternoon to explore the region, head out on a wine or cheese tasting, or just rest and relax. Evenings include a 3 or 4-course dinner at the hotel’s own pizzeria or at a local restaurant or agritorismo.

June 2 – Saturday: Though your trip was short, you’ll leave with many miles/kilometers in your legs, a few souvenirs in your bag, and memories to last a lifetime.
